3D Heatmap

Heatmaps are a popular method for information visualization. The X-axis, Y-axis, and colored squares provide three-dimensions of information. We have developed a 3D heatmap application that extends the two-dimensional heatmap into the third dimension. The Z-axis and colors of the sides of the bars add an additional two dimensions of information for a total of five dimensions. We have implemented this five-dimensional heatmap using the Unity-3D video game development platform. This allows users to explore and interact with the heatmap using controls that are intuitive for playing games. The software and source code are freely available on Github.
